Corporate Social Responsibility

Diversity
Sears Holdings stresses the importance of diversity and inclusion within its business which allows it to serve all Americans. One way they accomplish this is through its ten associate resource groups, which they refer to as ARGs. Some of these groups include ABLE Network, which aims to raise awareness of disabilities, African American as well as Asian networks, Pride and a network specifically for Women, just to name some. These have proven successful and foster growth, communication, and community engagement.
Sears Holdings has also scored 100 % in the Human Rights Campaigns Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index for the past ten years, not a small feat for such a large company. It is apparent their diversity and approach to individuality forming a cohesive team has been impactful and noticed.

Conflict Minerals Policy
Similar to other large corporations, Sears Holdings receives raw materials from all over the world and works with many other countries before a finished product is available. This also means that minerals and materials can be sourced in unkind conditions. Due to civil unrest, violence, and poor working conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and surrounding areas, Sears Holdings does not seek minerals from these places. It is their attempt to work with socially and fiscally responsible supply chains and know the origin of minerals.

Recycling and Environmental Sustainability
Batteries, tires, anti-freeze and motor oil are collected and recycled and reused in a responsible and eco-friendly manner. The packing and shipping materials are recyclable or made from sustainable materials, another attempt at lessening the carbon footprint. Although it seems Sears will be closing many stores in the foreseeable future, their commitment to environmental sustainability and lowering energy consumption will continue.
