Sears Holdings primary industry is integrated
retail, specifically with the stores Kmart and Sears. They sell clothes,
electronics, food, jewelry, indoor and outdoor home equipment, and toys.
Integrated retail is a highly competitive
industry with price, quality, service, and installation its core factors. As
consumers become more price conscious, it is becoming more difficult to stand
out amongst other companies. SH has a large customer base with Kenmore,
reasonably priced home appliances, and it’s store Kmart. These are seen as
discount options and are favored by consumers looking for value products within
budget.
However, Sears is competing with the
ever-growing e-commerce businesses, making it critical to strengthen its online
retail presence. Due to Sears’ wide variety of services and goods sold, they
have competitors in department stores, budget stores, and home improvement
stores. Some of their major competitors are Amazon, J.C. Penney, Macy’s,
Target, Walmart, and The Home Depot.
